What is mental health counseling?

How can counseling help me?

Counseling offers a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore challenges, gain insights, and develop coping strategies. It can help improve self-awareness, manage emotions, navigate relationships, and foster personal growth, leading to a more fulfilling life.

What should I expect during a counseling session?

During counseling sessions, expect a compassionate, confidential dialogue with a trained professional. Together, you'll address challenges, set achievable goals, explore emotions, and develop practical strategies to navigate difficulties and foster positive change in your life. 

How long are therapy sessions and how many sessions do I need?

Our therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. The duration and frequency of the therapy process will depend on your specific needs, treatment goals, and progress. Many concerns are resolved with short-term therapy, while others, more complex or chronic concerns can require a longer commitment before improvement is achieved.

Do you offer in-office and telehealth counseling?

Yes, we offer both in-office and telehealth counseling. This flexibility allows you to choose the format that best suits your schedule and preferences. 

Do you accept insurance?

At Sunrise Counseling, LLC, we offer private pay services exclusively. Private pay grants clients an enhanced level of privacy and confidentiality, as well as the ability to choose the focus, duration, and frequency of therapy.

Is counseling confidential?

Yes, counseling sessions are confidential. Your privacy is of utmost importance, and information shared during sessions is kept confidential within legal and ethical limits. Exceptions exist only in specific circumstances, which your counselor will discuss with you.

I'm a parent of a minor. Am I entitled to access to all my child's files?

In Florida, parents generally have access to their child’s medical records, including counseling notes. However, it’s important to confirm with the counselor how to access these records while respecting your child’s confidentiality rights.

Can I involve my family in counseling sessions?

Involving your family in therapy sessions can be beneficial. Be sure to discuss this option with your therapist first to ensure it’s suitable for everyone involved and that everyone agrees. 

What ages do you provide counseling for?

We offer counseling services for a wide range of ages, including children aged 6 and up, teenagers, and adults. Our therapists are trained to provide support tailored to each age group’s unique needs and challenges.

How can I prepare for my first counseling session?

Before your first counseling session, take some time to think about what you’d like to achieve, jot down any questions or concerns, and arrive a few minutes early to settle in. Being open and honest with your therapist will help make the most of your session.
